Indian Research Scenario- Much needs to be done!

Congratulations to ISRO, for having successfully launched the Italian "AGILE" satellite. I hope that our government funds this Organization generously for it to enable Fundamental Space Research using X-Ray, Gamma Ray observatories etc. India needs such programmes now.

Talking of research, it is very disheartening to see that our country hardly contributes to cutting edge research . Apart from a handful of Institutions such as the IISc, TIFR etc., very few organizations actually carry out serious research. Not even the IITs contribute to quality research as much they are expected to do so.

To add to this, bright minds and talented professionals are siphoned off by the IT companies, which no doubt offer high pay packages but in no way help in Nation-Building, which is of primary importance to India now.

Now in darkness world stops turning,
Ashes where the bodies burning
No more War Pigs have the power,
And as God has struck the hour
IT companies gobbling up all the 'bright' minds is really a joke. The 'bright minds' you speak of join the IT sector of their own accord(if they indeed do so in the first place), it is not that they are being forced into it. If one is really 'bright' than one has many more avenues other than IT, an if inspite of all that he still choses to join the IT bandwagon...well,truth be told he was never really 'bright'. IT is not the place for cutting-edge research...there is a big diference between IT and computer science and the really 'bright' ones may sometimes opt for the latter which is not bad at all.
As an aside, it is the continuous migration of young, talented people to other countries that is a more pressing issue.
